‘Decarbonize Thailand Startup Sandbox’ starts now

 

To drive Thai corporates to achieve their missions in line with COP26 (the latest annual United Nations’ climate change meeting), ‘Decarbonize Thailand Startup Sandbox’  (DTS) has encouraged Thai and foreign startups to apply to join the project by the end of June 2022.

 

True Digital Park and New Energy Nexus (Thailand) in collaboration with B.Grim Power, Charoen Pokhand Group, IRPC, PTT, and True Corporation believe that the project will create innovation and knowledge exchange between startup talents and industrial experts.   This will definitely come up with new solutions and applied technologies to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero mission by 2065 in accordance with COP26 agenda.

 

Tarit Nimmanwudipong, general manager of True Digital Park, said the project is to promote public awareness over sustainability, to find out possible solutions to solve and prevent the carbon emission. 

 

Stanley Ng, vice president SEA, New Energy Nexus said the decarbonization is widely used to determine the organisations’ business directions and take a proactive approach on their operations and value chains in order to build resilience and ecosystem to be ready for zero carbon future.

 

Effective decarbonization actions include shifting the energy mix away from fossil fuels and more cleaner energy processes, such as utilizing other low emission energy carriers and circular economy, promoting the electric mobility vehicles, carbon trading mechanism.

 

Tentative timeline for the project is as follows:

 

  1. Startup selection pitch event – July 16-17
  2. DTS Startup Sandbox August 1 to October 31 (3-month sandbox period) to develop Proof of Concept for business and industrial’s decarbonization.  This stage includes masterclass workshops, corporate mentoring, adequate resources and working environments.
  3. DTS Symposium to be held by November – including seminars and events from all stakeholders such as startups, public sector, private organisations, researchers, economists, environmental and innovative specialist, to discus and share views over the challenges, opportunity, and the future of Thailand towards the climate change and transformation Thailand to become Zero Carbon Economy.

 

 

As a large conglomerate with  14 business group across 21 countries, CP Group’s Director of Sustainability Development, Somjettana Pasakonon, said that the group is delighted to be a part of this project in line with ‘Making today a better tomorrow’ vision.  The group aims to be a net zero carbon organization by 2050, including their diverse value chain.

 

Nopadej Karnasuta, Senior EVP – Investment, Innovation and Sustainability, B.Grimm Power, said that the company’s commitment to the net zero carbon emission by 2050.   Through its vision ‘Empowering the world compassionately’, the company is continuously expanding in renewable energy projects with new technology to deliver sustainability, reliability, and affordability.

 

Anucha Somjitchob, VP M&A,  IRPC as a major producer in petroleum and petrochemical industry, said the project will create value and innovation to all stakeholders and support its vision  ‘To shape material and energy solutions in harmony with life’.  By 2030, IRPC aims to reduce carbon emission by 20%, to be carbon neutrality by 2050, and to achieve net zero target by 2060.

 

Nitchan Piromsawat, Venture Capitalist and Head of Partnerships, PTT ExpresSo said that PTT group targets 15% greenhouse gas reduction by 2030, to obtain carbon neutrality within 2050 and net zero emission by 2060.
